Do plants feel pain? This topic has always been putting a lot of pressure on our nerves but After the Kerala Elephant Incident, there are many different reactions on social media regarding this.
Plants have life!
We all already know that plants have life and this was proved by an Indian scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose on May 10, 1901. Bose proved that plants have a definite life cycle, a reproductive system, and are aware of their surroundings.
Do plants feel pain?
Studies have shown that animals feel and show pain, emotions, and feelings of love. But unlike animals, plants don't have a central nervous system connected to various receptors to feel pain. One can have receptors with a brain and the nervous system can make feel, touch, hear, and taste.
Plants, however, have structures to respond to stimuli, like animals and humans to have a defense mechanism like releasing chemicals when an insect bites it or turning towards the sunlight. But they don't have a fight-or-flight response to the threat of pain or death that animals and humans have. And there is no proper scientific evidence to show that they can sense pain or death.
Let us take a situation that someone says that a certain plant is suffering from liver infection and is going to die in a few minutes. Would you believe that person?
Of course, no, you wouldn't believe because plants can not have a liver infection because they don't have a liver. Similarly, plants don't have pain receptors so they cannot feel pain.

It's easy to understand this way.
Saying that plants also feel pain isn't an excuse to kill animals.
Let's take another situation that there is an earthquake and your house has collapsed. Somehow you managed to escape but your pet doggy is still there stuck in debris. So you decide to go back and find your pet and suddenly you remember that you've left fruits in the kitchen and rescue a fruit basket because it would be much more lives in a fruit basket than a single animal.
And it is said that to extract 1 part of high-quality animal protein 6 parts of plant protein are required to feed that animal. So killing animals for food is also not appreciable.

Or think like would you keep a lemon to be crushed under your new car's tire or keep a mouse to celebrate your car.
